ABOUT THE ROLE:
This position supports First Federal Bank of Kansas City's Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), anti-money laundering (AML), sanctions, and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) (BSA/AML/OFAC) program, its enterprise compliance risk program, and its Fintech Partner Program. The BSA & Regulatory Compliance Analyst I (Analyst I) performs day-to-day BSA/AML analysis, compliance risk support, and regulatory affairs tasks across retail banking, commercial banking, and the Bank's Fintech Program under the direction of the BSA Officer and the Compliance & Risk Officer.

This is a shared position. The Analyst I reports directly to the Bank Secrecy Act Officer (BSA Officer) and supports both BSA Operations, under the direction of the BSA Officer, and Compliance Operations, under the direction of the FFBKC Compliance & Risk Officer. Work assignments and priorities are coordinated jointly by the BSA Officer and the Compliance & Risk Officer, and the Analyst I is expected to balance and communicate competing demands between the two functions. Performance is evaluated by the BSA Officer with input from the Compliance & Risk Officer.

The Analyst I is a developing professional who works within established procedures, escalates unusual matters, and build the technical knowledge needed to support the Bank's compliance obligations. Work is reviewed regularly for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to procedures.


LOCATION/WORK SCHEDULE:
The Analyst I will be assigned to the Corporate Administration Center in Leawood, KS in a hybrid work arrangement. The Analyst I is required to work in the office Tuesday through Thursday and may be eligible to work remotely on Monday and Friday. Generally, the Analyst I will be expected to work Monday through Friday during regular business hours. The hybrid schedule and in-office requirements may change at management's discretion.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
BSA/AML/OFAC Analysis

  • Works alerts and cases generated by the Bank's transaction monitoring, fraud, and sanctions screening systems for retail and fintech partner accounts; documents dispositions clearly and escalates potential suspicious activity to the BSA Officer.
  • Prepares draft Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) narratives, Currency Transaction Reports (CTRs) and CTR exemption documentation for review and filing.
  • Performs OFAC screening review, clears or escalations potential matches, and assists with FinCEN 314(a) searches and 314(b) information-sharing requests.
  • Performs Customer Identification Program (CIP), customer due diligence (CDD), beneficial ownership, and enhanced due diligence (EDD) reviews for new and existing customers, including higher-risk customers referred by the retail bank or fintech partners.
  • Assists with reviewing and validating fintech partner KYC/CIP files, EDD packages, and sanctions screening results submitted through the Fintech Partner Program.
  • Supports subpoena, law enforcement, and other legal process responses by gathering and organizing records under direction.
  • Assists with maintaining BSA/AML record retention in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Risk Duties

  • Assists in gathering data and documentation for the Bank's BSA/AML/OFAC risk assessment, fintech program risk assessment, and compliance risk assessments.
  • Tracks and updates key performance indicators (KPIs) and key risk indicators (KRIs) for assigned areas and flags trends or threshold breaches to the BSA Officer.
  • Maintains issue and finding logs from audits, examinations, and partner reviews; follows up with business owners and partners on remediation status.
  • Assists with vendor and fintech partner due diligence requests (e.g., collecting policies, audit reports, licenses, and certifications).
Regulatory Affairs & Compliance Support
  • Assists in the periodic review of Bank and fintech partner policies and procedures against current regulations and guidance; documents proposed changes for the Compliance & Risk Officer's review.
  • Performs first-level compliance review of retail bank and fintech partner marketing materials, disclosures, and website content for adherence to UDAAP, Regulation Z, Regulation DD, Regulation E, fair lending, FDIC advertising and signage, and related requirements; logs and tracks review requests.
  • Logs, categorizes, and tracks consumer complaints received through the Bank and fintech partners; monitors response timelines and escalates complaints alleging regulatory or fair treatment concerns.
  • Assists with Regulation E error resolution, chargeback, and dispute monitoring for the retail bank and fintech partner card and deposit programs, including timeliness and documentation testing.
  • Establish Assists with preparing materials for internal and external audits, regulatory examinations, and compliance reviews.
Fintech Partner Program Support
  • Ensure Supports onboarding of new fintech partners by collecting due diligence documentation, completing checklists, and coordinating with partner compliance contacts under the BSA Officer's direction.
  • Participates in recurring fintech partner compliance and BSA meetings; captures action items and follows up on open items.
  • Reviews fintech partner-submitted monthly data, metrics, and attestations for completeness and consistency and flags discrepancies.
Reporting, QA/QC
  • Prepares assigned sections of monthly and quarterly BSA/AML/OFAC, compliance, and fintech program reports for the BSA Officer, Compliance & Risk Officer, Chief Risk Officer, and management committees.
  • Performs quality control (QC) checks on assigned work products (e.g., alert dispositions, CTRs, CIP files) using established checklists and documents results
  • Maintains procedures, job aids, and desk references for assigned processes and recommends improvements.
General
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of customer, partner, SAR, and examination information in accordance with law and Bank policy.
  • Participates in ongoing training programs to stay up to date on regulatory changes and industry best practices.
  • Cross-trains with team members and provides backup support as necessary.
  • Other activities and functions as deemed necessary or appropriate by the BSA Officer or Compliance & Risk Officer.
  • Complies with all applicable banking laws and regulations, including, but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, USA PATRIOT Act, and related anti-money laundering laws and regulations; and federal consumer protection legislation and regulations.

WHAT YOU BRING:
Education and Experience

  • Working knowledge of BSA/AML/OFAC requirements and general banking regulations, or the demonstrated ability to learn them quickly.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience in BSA/AML, compliance, fraud, risk retail banking or operations at a bank, credit union, fintech, or similar financial services organization preferred; relevant internship or military financial/investigative experience considered.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, criminal justice, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Progress toward an industry certification (such as CAMS, CAFP, or CRCM,) is a plus and is expected to be pursued within the first 24 months in the role. 
  • Strong analytical and research skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good written and oral communication skills; able to meet deadlines and juggle multiple demands.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to work with all types of individuals across the Bank and with fintech partner staff.
  • Proficient in the use of personal computer systems, internet applications, email, and Windows-based software applications, including Word and Excel; ability to learn banking core, transaction monitoring, and case management software.
